Private Advisory - Senior Associate / Special Counsel

This role will be focused on Indirect Tax matters and will be suitable for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel with at least 6 years' PQE.

The Role

Due to growth and an increase in workflow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join our Melbourne Private Advisory team. You will play a key role in providing expert advice and support to our clients on a range of indirect tax matters (including stamp duty, land tax and payroll tax).

Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice on indirect tax matters to clients;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support clients in navigating complex indirect tax laws and regulations;
  • Assist in the preparation and review of legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and tax filings;
  • Assist in the preparation of private ruling applications and objections/appeals;
  • Keep abreast of changes in tax legislation and provide proactive advice to clients; and
  • Build and/or maintain client relationships.


Who We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years’ experience as a lawyer specialising in indirect taxes, preferably within a reputable law firm or the legal arm of a large accounting firm. You will have in-depth knowledge of tax laws and regulations, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and provide innovative solutions. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders at all levels.
