The Role:
We are seeking a Peer Support Worker in The Sisters of St John of God (REACH) Program. Successful candidates will be responsible for providing ongoing support and expertise for the planning and implementation of person-centered action plans that fulfill the reintegrating and re-connection of clients who have been, are returning from or are at risk of further engagement with the justice system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide peer support services for women in both prison and community settings.
- Assist and motivate clients to achieve their agreed-upon goals outlined in their person-centred action plans.
- Encourage positive relationships and support networks through role modelling.
- Establish and maintain collaborative and supportive relationships with clients, service providers, other team members and the local community through demonstrating respect, empathy, and the willingness to understand differences in culture and customs.
- Communicate and interact with clients and their families to ensure appropriate intervention models and strategies are used to meet client needs ensuring all non-discriminatory and equality standards are met.
- Ensure effective and efficient daily workload planning.
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and sensitivity when dealing with cross-cultural and linguistically diverse matters.
- Comply with all Outcare policy, procedures and practices and legislation, and confidentiality agreements.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate and timely client record keeping.
- Complete and maintain documentation in accordance with organisational policies and procedures, and quality standards requirements.
- Undertake other reasonable duties are directed.
What you'll need:
- Relevant qualifications in Community Services or related discipline, or equivalent lived and professional experience.
- Lived experience of justice system involvement, recovery, mental health or other relevant life experience that informs peer support practice.
- Experience supporting people experiencing complex social challenges.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to support individuals in a trauma-transformative and person-centred way.
- Cultural competency working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Strong communication and engagement skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Proficiency in basic digital systems including email and Microsoft Office.
- Current driver's license.
- National Police Clearance.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check if required.
- Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid visa permitting employment in Australia.
- Current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain
