Occupational Therapists with disability-support experience: explore a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioner career at Melior.
If you are an occupational therapist with experience supporting people with intellectual disability, developmental disability, neurological conditions or emotional and behavioural needs, you already understand the relationship between people, environments, routines, sensory needs, independence and participation. You know that behaviour rarely happens in isolation.
You already change the task, the environment or the routine before you try to change the person. Positive Behaviour Support runs on that same principle, applied to behaviour. The difference is how long you get to stay: instead of assess, recommend, discharge, you are there for what happens next.
PBS starts from something you already know: behaviour is communication. When someone does not have the words, skills or tools to say what they need, the need shows up another way. PBS is the work of understanding why, changing what is around the person rather than the person, and teaching the skills that meet that need another way.
It is a discipline, not a knack: backed by international research and practised in group homes, schools, workplaces, family homes and the community.
