This is a key mentoring position working with young people, focused on their health and wellbeing in the Wonthaggi region.

About headspace:
headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services. Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Wonthaggi, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV.  

About the role
Reporting to the Centre Manager, you will work as part of the headspace Wonthaggi multidisciplinary team to provide strength-based and culturally safe services to young people with a focus on First Nations young people. You will support young people and their families/friends to access wellbeing support, therapeutic interventions, and care coordination, working closely with local community and partner youth and health services. You will also increase community awareness of mental health challenges amongst First Nations young people and communities, through facilitation, organisation and delivery of health promotion activities and community events.

This role is located at our headspace Wonthaggi Centre and is a permanent, part-time (0.6 FTE), working three (3) days per week which will include one evening per week. The base salary range is $86k (pro-rata) per annum with access to salary packaging of $18,550 per annum.

About you

  • Diploma or Certificate IV in youth work, community services, alcohol and drug, mental health support or social welfare and/or relevant and equivalent experience working within a health, education, or youth setting. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, the ability to engage with young people and advocate on their behalf. 
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion.
